Open Processing Model

A new initiative for the TEI community is taking shape.

e-editiones is pleased to announce the Open Processing Model (OPM) project, an initiative to expand access to the TEI Processing Model and strengthen its role within contemporary Digital Humanities workflows.

The project brings together an outstanding team, including Wolfgang Meier, creator of TEI Publisher, and Magdalena Turska, co-author of the TEI Processing Model, with guidance from a steering committee that includes members of the TEI Technical Council and leading digital edition projects.

The project aims to deliver:

  • A new open-source Python implementation of the TEI Processing Model
  • Greater integration with Python-based Digital Humanities workflows
  • New opportunities for teaching, research, and scholarly editions
  • Contributions to the future development of the TEI standard through implementation-driven feedback

The initiative will be working closely with the TEI Consortium, ensuring that practical implementation experience is directly conveyed or passed on to the TEI Technical Council, so it may directly inform the ongoing evolution of the TEI Processing Model specification.

We are currently seeking partners, supporters, collaborators, and institutions interested in advancing open standards and sustainable infrastructure for digital scholarly editing.
